Pool-chemical safety: Follow the product label. The CDC pool-chemical guidance says to keep each chemical in its original labeled container, store chemicals separately in a dry, well-ventilated area, and never mix chlorine with acids or different chlorine products.

A salt chlorine generator and trichlor tablets can both operate in water that contains cyanuric acid, but they add it differently. A salt pool adds pool conditioner separately when the cell manufacturer and test results call for it. Trichlor tablets add cyanuric acid every time they supply chlorine.

Saltwater pools do not use “saltwater stabilizer” as a different chemical

Cyanuric acid is cyanuric acid. The pool type changes how it is managed, not the identity of the conditioner. Use the salt-system manual and a valid water test to decide whether an outdoor pool needs it and what range applies.

Do not add conditioner simply because the salt cell displays low chlorine. Cell output, pump time, water temperature, flow, scaling, bather load, and water balance all affect chlorine production.

Trichlor supplies chlorine and stabilizer together

Measure free chlorine and pH routinely, and test cyanuric acid before adding conditioner or committing to prolonged trichlor use. A salt reading does not reveal stabilizer, and a tablet count does not reveal chlorine concentration.

Choose separate pool conditioner in a salt pool only when the manufacturer and test results call for it. Choose trichlor when slow stabilized chlorination is genuinely useful and the water still has room for more cyanuric acid. If stabilizer is already high, neither more conditioner nor more trichlor is the answer.
